Kennedy Space Center
Merritt Island, Florida

Facility Track Features
The Kennedy Space Center, Shuttle Landing Facility runway was designed and built by NASA for the Space Shuttle Program. The runway has a tolerance of less than 1/4 inch height difference from end to end. During the design and creation of the 15000' runway NASA had to compensate for the curvature of the earth to ensure the flattest surface possible.
The Runway's concrete surface is 100 yards wide and 15000' long. The runway has a 24 inch crown in the center.
There are 1/4" X 1/4" perpendicular rain grooves spaced every 1.25 inches. They cover the main body of the runway starting at the 3500' mark on the north and south end proceeding to the center.
There is an additional 1000' asphalt runoff on each end of the Runway with a transition edge that is 1/2" high. Additionally, there are (2) 50' wide traffic lanes which run parallel to the 15000' runway.

Facility Infrastructure
The NASA fire rescue is located at the south end of the runway. Their abilities far exceed the potential needs of a car incident, and they are on site 24/7.
Additionally, JBPG has certified, professionally trained EMT's on staff with several having undergone NHRA training as well.

220V, 4 phase camlocks available for EV testing teams (charger must be supplied).
Teams must supply all support tools and gear as there is no shop on site. The covered and partially enclosed T-Shelter is available for rent. Additional tents and temporary structures can be rented.

Facility Access & Amenities
As the SLF is housed inside the Kennedy Space Center, government facility, all personnel must undergo a stringent background check and badging process prior to entry.
This check takes 14 business days to perform and ensures that no previously unvetted personnel (regardless of affiliation) can enter the premises.
Limited shared office space, break room and restrooms are available for use 1/4 mile from the runway
