What is Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds LLC.?

Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds LLC. is the leader of high speed/low speed, Straight Line Aerodynamic Testing. This program was created and developed by World Record Holder, Johnny Bohmer.

Teams can conduct their own testing at a Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds LLC. approved facilities.  This allows for OEM manufacturers, race teams, tuning companies and private individuals to complete any testing at runways and other facilities.

The Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility

The Kennedy Space Center, Shuttle Landing Facility runway was designed and built by NASA for the Space Shuttle Program. The runway has a tolerance of less than 1/4 inch height difference from end to end. During the design and creation of the 15000' runway NASA had to compensate for the curvature of the earth to ensure the flattest surface possible. The Launch and Landing Facility has been labeled one of mankind's great engineering feats.

The Shuttle Landing Facility was designed not only for the Space Shuttle, but also some of the largest aircraft in the world. The Runway's concrete surface is 100 yards wide and 15000' long. The runway has a 24 inch crown in the center, but it is hardly noticeable due to the incredible width of the runway.

There are 1/4" X 1/4" perpendicular rain grooves spaced every 1.25 inches. They cover the main body of the runway starting at the 3500' mark on the north and south end proceeding to the center. These grooves have never affected any groups/teams data logging equipment used during test's at the Launch and Landing Facility. There is an additional 1000' asphalt runoff on each end of the Runway with a transition edge that is 1/2" high. Additionally, there are (2) 50' wide traffic lanes which run parallel to the 15000' runway.

The Runway has an array of lights that were designed to be easily seen from space. These lights are fully adjustable to accommodate driver needs for all night testing if needed. Full time weather information is also available from the on site Air Traffic Control Tower.

The Runway has "four" one mile military GPS surveyed sections that intersect,"two" from north to south and "two" from south to north. This allows for accurate timing when doing research and development testing. The International Mile Racing Association has access to the facility and regularly assists in timing sessions for different teams/groups. IMRA can be requested to oversee the vehicle being tested and overall safety of the teams/groups when needed.

The NASA fire rescue is located at the south end of the runway. Their abilities far exceed the potential needs of a car incident, and they are on site 24/7. Additionally, JBPG has certified, professionally trained EMT's on staff with several having undergone NHRA training as well.

There are two very large structures available for teams to use! These structure's come with nice restrooms, WIFI, break areas, a cafeteria and snacks.

This is a WORLD CLASS historical testing facility which offers a one of a kind unique driving experience!!

OEM’s, EPA, DOE, DOT, EU and other major global automotive governing bodies.

Autonomous Vehicles can conduct testing as well.

During the testing phase, Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds LLC. will data log data points including but not limited to the following:

Acceleration g-force, braking g-force, timed acceleration over a specified distance, odometer for OEM comparison accuracy, speedometer for OEM comparison accuracy, stopping distance, coast down distance, 0 - 60 MPH timing for OEM comparison accuracy, 0 - 100 MPH timing for OEM comparison accuracy, 0 - 150 MPH timing for OEM comparison accuracy, 0 - 200 MPH timing for OEM comparison accuracy, 0 - 225 MPH timing for OEM comparison accuracy, 0 - 250 MPH timing for OEM comparison accuracy, 0 - 300 MPH timing for OEM comparison accuracy, engine component testing, dynamic load/brake testing, tire safety testing, tire grip/compound testing, coefficient of drag testing with different coatings, emissions testing, autonomous vehicle testing, avoidance testing, fuel economy testing, and 150 MPH law enforcement certification testing.

These are some but not all of the tests that will be performed on each session. The information gathered is proprietary and the sole ownership of Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds LLC and/or the entity using the facility for testing.

Can I test my vehicle(s) there?

The JBPG team will routinely test ½ mile, 1 mile, 1.5 mile, 2 mile, 2.3 mile, 2.5 mile and 2.7 mile distances. Manufacturers, tuners and teams come from all over the world to test many types of vehicles at JBPG including sports cars, race cars, tractor trailers, electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, fire safety, law enforcement and the list goes on. Testing sessions are also held for private consumers who want to test their personal vehicles. Other testing of new materials and technology from different companies take place at JBPG as well.

Types of Straight Line Aerodynamic Testing

Anchor 1

- JBPG Private Manufacturer Testing

The JBPG team will routinely test ½ mile, 1 mile, 1.5 mile, 2 mile, 2.3 mile, 2.5 mile and 2.7 mile distances with small groups at designated dates to record data and correlate it in conjunction with the manufacturers claim. Contact us if you are interested in this style of testing.

- OEM Manufacturer Testing

This style of testing can occur over the dates requested by the manufacturer. This style of testing will be held in strict confidentiality and grants manufacturers the upmost privacy. Contact us if you are interested in this style of testing.

- Private Testing

Private testing sessions are available for a variety of purposes including testing new equipment and technology. Like the manufacturer testing, this style of testing can occur over the dates requested by the private entity. This testing will be held in strict confidentiality and grants the upmost privacy. Contact us if you are interested in this style of testing.

Other Information.

- Vehicle Shipping Services:

Have your vehicle delivered right to the testing site. Contact us to learn more.

- Secure Overnight Parking:
The on site locations offer some of the safest and most secure parking area's in the state of Florida. Some locations have a covered area that is inaccessible to the public and offers protection from the elements. Fully enclosed, overnight parking also available.

- Trailer & Equipment Storage:

Store your trailer and equipment right on site. The same secure overnight parking area can also accommodate trailers of nearly any size including multiple semi truck trailers.

- Health & Safety:

All JBPG testing sessions are conducted under the supervision of on site, professional, Fire Rescue and EMS personnel. Our certified, professionally trained EMT's on staff specialize in vehicle related incidents with several having undergone additional NHRA training as well. If your team is performing any type of vehicle stability testing or if your straight line testing speeds exceed 125 MPH, at least (1) EMT is required for the duration of your test. Additional health and safety personnel may be required depending on the scope of your testing. In addition, the NASA fire rescue is located at the south end of the runway. Their abilities far exceed the potential needs of a car incident, and they are on site 24/7.
